The other day I saw myself walking into the gym and realized that I was dressed like an elementary school student. I was wearing pink polka-dotted shorts, a t-shirt from elementary school (no lie), and an obnoxious blue UNC headband. The great thing about this look is that no one bothers you while working out, but I decided to put a little more effort into my workout wardrobe. In pursuit of the perfect pencil skirt: Simple Sews Wiggle Skirt

In the second installment of my quest for the perfect pencil skirt, I’ve gone back to a classic. This is the wiggle skirt from the Two-in-One Skirt Collection by Simple Sews. I’ve made this pattern up twice before: a floral stretch cotton sateen version in May 2015, and a goldenrod version out of upholstery fabric in October 2015. The floral version is still in my closet, but I broke the zipper on the second version an decided that it wasn’t worth fixing. Both of these skirts are fine, but the fit wasn’t perfect so I wanted to see if I could improve on it.

In pursuit of the perfect pencil skirt: Simplicity 1559

This seems crazy, but I’ve only made one skirt in the past two years. 2016 and 2017 were all about pants: Itch to Stitch North Point Trousers, Hudson Sweatpants, Style Arc Sadie Pants, Ginger Jeans, and Colette Clovers. This year, though, I’m going to get back into skirts. I want to find the perfect pencil skirt pattern and sew up a work wardrobe full of them. Continue reading

Black Ginger Jeans

I’ve wanted black jeans for a long time. When I studied abroad back in, oh 2010, my friend had a great pair of grey jeans that she wore constantly. I thought they were so cool, but I’ve never had a pair of anything other than classic blue myself. Eight years later, I decided to take things into my own hands and make myself a black pair.
